Summer Class Offerings

 Toddler Music Class

Learning Objectives: Social Skills, Turn Taking, Following Directions, Movement to Music, Instrument Playing, Pre-Academic Skills, and FUN!

This class is designed to supplement learning by having FUN! Your child will interact with children their own age by singing, dancing, and playing instruments all while learning both musical (appropriate use of instruments, melodic contour, steady beat, etc) and non-musical skills (taking turns, waiting, following directions, pre-academics, etc). A variety of live and recorded music will be used as well as visual aids and books. The teacher for this class will be Melissa Dierenfeldt, a board certified music therapist and music educator with over 5 years experience working with young children in various early childhood and elementary education settings.

Ages 2 -3 (8 students maximum); Two 30 minute classes per week for four consecutive weeks (2's and younger 3's

Ages 3 -4 (8 students maximum); Two 30 minute classes per week for four consecutive weeks (Older 3's and 4's)

  String Groups for Summer

Beginning string group - Suzuki-based group Instruction

Tuesdays at 10:00 am

45 minute classes, 8 week session

 Dates: 6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30

 Fee: $100.00 + rental and book fee.

Beginners will learn the basics of the violin. 

  •   How to hold the violin and bow 

  •   Correct posture

  •   Names of all the parts of the instrument. 

The group will learn at least three basic songs.

Participate in games and music play to promote good technique and posture.

*Parents required to attend and participate with students ages 5 and under.

Supplies needed:

  • Violin

  • Suzuki book 1 (book and cd)

  • Artistry in Strings book 1

Intermediate to advanced string ensemble

Tuesdays at 2:30 pm

60 minute classes, 8 week session

 Dates:  6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30

 Fee: $110.00 + book fee.

This group is for violin, viola and cello students beyond the beginner phase (at least partway through Suzuki book 1). 

Students will participate in ensemble playing.

Learn at least 3 ensemble pieces.

Group technique instruction.

Basic theory instruction.

Recorder Group Class

Wednesdays at 3:30 pm

30 minute classes, 8 week sessions

Dates:  6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30

Fee: $70.00 for one class, $100.00 for both + book fee and recorder.

3:30 - 4:00 Recorder basics and technique for half hour class.

(Recommended for beginners)

4:00 - 4:30 Theory and advances repertoire for half hour class.

(For students who have already mastered beginning recorder).

Recorder classes at beginner and intermediate levels are available to give students the opportunity to begin to read music, play real music on the recorder, and understand basic music theory.  Students will be taught proper posture, how to read and play music, and instrument care.  The recorder class is a great way to introduce your child to basic music principles and basic music appreciation.  Available to children age 6 and up, students will learn not5e recognition ande rhythm.  By the end of the session, they will be able to play several songs on a recorder.  This is a great way to prepare your child for beginner band or orchestra.

 

Rock Band

Come join one of our new classes available for vocalists, guitarists, bassists, drummers, and keybordists between the ages of 10 and 7.  Repertoire will be determined by the interest and level of students.  Open to any student with at least six months playing experience and basic fundamental skills on their instrument.  Auditions will be held in order to place students with the appropriate level group.

Student Guitar Ensemble

Come join one of our new classes offered this summer.  The Guitar Ensemble will consist of three to five guitars and will provide training in the specific techniques necessary for ensemble performance.  Repertoire will vary depending on the interest of the students, but will include multiple styles such as, classical, rock and movie/tv themes.  This class will develop the students' music reading skills through the practice and performance of reading studies and ensemble pieces arrange specifically for the guitar.  The entire spectum of music notation is covered including melodic note reading, chord progressions, rhythmic notation, stylistic interpretation and ensemble development.  This class will culminate in a student recital at the end of the six weeks.  Open to any student with basic sight - reading skills and at least six months playing experience.  Auditions will be held in order to place students with the appropriate level group.
